Finding balance through Wise Effort

Libra season is coming upon us towards the end of the month (my birthday month!!), which is good timing to chat about my reflections over the last few months about balance.

It's crazy how much balance plays an integral part of our well-being in our lives.

If we do too much, we get tired, exhausted, overwhelmed, sick.
If we do too little, we get stuck, feel stagnant and lazy and it gets hard to become active, we get sick.
If we eat too much, we feel bloated, our bellies hurt us, we gain excess weight, we get sick.
If we eat too little, we don't get enough nutrients that our bodies need.. we get sick.
In yoga and 
reiki, we learn that chakras can become overactive or underactive. 
In Ayurveda (
Ayurveda 101 & Doshas &personal Dosha Quiz video), we learn how our imbalances become part of dis-ease in our mind-body-spirit.

It sounds pretty self-explanatory and simple but why do we seem to always be living out of balance? What we need to do is just be a little more mindful of where our energy goes.

"Wise effort" we call this. It's the middle between doing too much and doing too little. 


Practice: We can experience this right now. Hold out your arm in front of you. Now reach out like you are trying to grab something across the room from you.. reeeeally reaacch. Now let the arm go limp. And now hold the arm out in front of you in a way that it's in between the two- not reaching and overdoing, but also not limp and underdoing. That's the middle, and that's what "wise effort" is in practice. When we take this simple practice into our daily life we can bring more balance into all different aspects in our lives.
